My Name is Tenille Gross and I am an experienced veterinary technician. I have been in this field for 10 years and over the years I have rescued many animals. Some have been abandon, some neglected or others there families just couldn't care for them anymore.      These are thier stories.

"Bonsai"

"Bonsai" is now a 3 yr. domestic shorthair who was brought in as a stray into Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Clinic, in Nov. of 2003. He was unable to use his rear legs. It was suggested he was hit by a car. It was a sunday afternoon and sundays in the e.r. are extremely busy, so this cute orange cat was placed into a cage until the staff had time to euthanize him due to a possible spinal fracture. He was given a can of food and ate it ravisily while purring the whole time. As the evening went on and things slowed down, the staff became more fond of this striped cat. I had decided that any animal who has been through what he has been through and can still purr about it should have a second chance. I took him home with plans to purchase a wheelchair for him. The staff had pulled together to purchase the wheelchair, but upon an exam with the surgeon it was determined his fracture was unstable and may benifit from stablization. So that night a full body cast was placed and the hopeful long road to recovery was on it's way. After several weeks of daily physical therapy on his rear limbs he was finally starting to stand. And a few weeks after that was the true test. The cast was removed and the fratured healed but could he walk on his own? His first few steps were short and shaky, but just like a new born foal with every step he became stronger and steadier. In a matter of days he was keeping up with the other cats and loving it. Today nothing holds him back. Some permanant nerve damage has occurred. His gait not as graceful as we typically think of for a cat, but don't tell him that. He still lives with me. Update: In August of 2006, Bonsai's nerve damage from his accident progressed and he had to laid to rest.

"Squiggy"  5 month old American Pit Bull Terrier. Squiggy was brought into Animal Emergency Hospital in flint by good samaritons. He was obviously used as a bait dog for pit fights. His right front leg was so badly chewed up and the wounds were so old the tissue of his leg was dying off. He had multiple other wounds but the admitting doctor was concerned he may lose his leg due to the degree of infection. We admitted him for radiographs and antibiotics, but when it came time to discharge him, his "owners" were no where to be found.  We had tried to contact his "owners with no success. This little black dog was so sweet and affectionate for the shape he was in so I took him home in hopes of nursing him back to health. He required high doses of antibiotics and daily wound care. Within 5-7 days he was showing great improvement and in a week and a half he was using his leg again. Now that the physical scars were healing it was time to work on the emotional scars. For all he must have been thru his personality shone thru. He was great with people and I slowly introduced him to the rest of my family, two other pit bull terriers and three house cats. He took well to everybody. Now it was time to find him a home of his very own. He was adopted out to a great home where he is now called "Ziggy".

She is a 3 yr old  spayed female American Pit Bull Terrier. She was rescued due to abuse and neglect. Now completly recoverd she is looking for a loving home.
